Streamlining the maritime IT experience for quick access

Redefined the technical processes involved in TORM’s dashboard to improve the user journey and experience.

A world-leading specialist in product transportation, TORM is a reliable carrier of refined energy and petroleum products and chemicals. To optimize their performance and operations, TORM wanted to redesign their product Nexus with an aim to curate a single platform with a variety of functions and smoothen the user’s workflow and journey.

With solid design thinking and fluid brainstorming sessions, we worked towards realizing TORM’s vision of an elevated experience.

Challenge

What we needed to redefine

The main challenge was to catch hold of the marine IT domain, its people on-shore and off-shore, user’s physical environment, industry jargons, parameters, and standards used. It required a new look and feel without disrupting the user’s existing working style, but by smoothening it with a clean, hassle-free experience.

Our approach

Fibe 🤝 Lemon Yellow

We wanted to redesign the product while maintaining the legacy of the previous product, and begin building on a solid new base. Our collaboration focused on designing a modern and vibrant product, with a clean UI and better UX. We facilitated this with a simpler navigational journey and a more fitting hierarchical structure. All our design efforts were translated in functional code, which delivered the exact output that we aimed for.

Understanding the users

image

Off-shore members

These users are the members that travel on the ship. They monitor vessels during the voyage, and take actions to ensure smooth functioning and efficient transportation of the products.

On-shore members

This category of users play an important role in checking the performance of vessels. Based on the data shown on the admin dashboard, they share insights to make the journey fuel-efficient.

What was the problem

Cluttered, old design. Lack of clear, visual hierarchy.

What Lemon Yellow did

Well-organized hierarchy. Valuable and clear design elements. Balanced functional and visual appeal.

Optimizing operations with design

Let the carnival begin!

The product was designed to be used efficiently even when the usage conditions become adverse, such that the off-shore users can take care of multiple controls at the same time. We optimized data-heavy visualizations and tables to ensure that the on-shore and off-shore users can utilize it and make more informed decisions. By balancing the technical features and information with delightful visuals, we designed a smooth experience that automated tasks and ensured timely execution.

Shipping a functional experience

Let the carnival begin!

During this multi-phase collaboration, the next step was to develop a user-friendly interface with dynamic features. We integrated features like live data feeds, ship details, interactive world map, alerts and prompts, and an effortless admin report management system, that were designed to be easily accessible. By empowering the users with tools for efficient data visualization and management, we provided effective fleet management and a seamless navigational journey, on and off the sea.
